Experiencing breakouts, oily skin or blocked pores? This could be due to what you are eating! It is important to be aware of what sort of foods can cause these issues so you can avoid dealing with problematic skin. See below my top four "foods to avoid for clear skin".
1. Artificial Sugars
As much as we all love a good piece of chocolate or a cupcake, artificial sugars are one of the worst things for your skin. This is because artificial sugars can react with and damage collagen and elastin, which help keep your skin plump. Artificial sugars also cause the release of insulin, which can promote inflammation. This process can encourage breakouts and hormonal acne.
2. White Bread & Pasta
Large amounts of refined carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta and rice can cause you to breakout. Like sugar, refined carbohydrates can increase inflammation, which can accelerate acne and other skin conditions, such as rosacea and eczema.
3. Fast Food
This may be sad news to some, but cutting out junk is crucial if you wish to have clear skin. Most fried and fast foods contain trans fats, which have been shown to slow blood circulation and promote blocked pores, acne, bacteria build up and oily skin. Trans fats can be super bad for your health, which can be reflected in your skin.
For some people dairy, particularly milk, can promote breakouts. Cow's milk contains hormones that may cause acne in some women. It has also been known to promote inflammation, meaning it may make active breakouts worse. The reason milk promotes inflammation is because a high percentage of people are lactose intolerant, causing their bodies to get inflamed. This can be avoided by using lactose free milk.
